With over 100,000 cases worldwide, the COVID-19 virus is influencing industries throughout the world, and the trade show industry is no exception. As the disease spreads, nations and organizations are beginning to take preventative action. This prevention has manifested in cancellation or postponement of trade shows in areas with a high risk of contracting COVID-19.

Dozens of trade shows have already been postponed or outright canceled in China, Europe and in parts of the US where the virus is most prominent. As more cases start to appear in the US, show organizers are beginning to take preventative measures as well. For example, The Inspired Home Show in Chicago was recently canceled. This event was prepared for over 60,000 attendees, but as exhibitors backed out and organizers grew concerned about the virus, the decision was made to cancel. Many shows in California are suffering cancellations as well due to the high volume of traffic they receive from affected areas.

The growing worry about the spread of COVID-19 has prompted some of the top organizers in the trade show industry to release official statements about their plans to combat the spread of this disease. IAEE, SISO and many other organizers have all recently released statements about how they will handle the virus. As more information comes to light, there will be more statements from these organizations and Gateway will be ready to share all info with our clients and followers as it is released.

While there has been a slue of canceled or postponed events, many of the biggest shows in the industry are still slotted to continue as planned. Events such as ExhibitorLive that are located in relatively unaffected areas will still be held according to their original date and times.
